I am working on a project in which there is an intertidal zone in which there is a dregded navigation channel which is 45 km long and 600 m wide. The soil material in that region is Silty-clay with D50 of 0.003 mm. The entire navigation channel is always submerged and it has the maximum depth of 18 m. What I want to know is that what will be the angle of the most stable slope of the navigation channel which can be provided while dredging.? How to find out theoratically that value of the slope?

Which strength parameters are needed? Are there any empirical formulas to know the values of strength parameters based on grain size distribution.
Please find the gamma, c, phi values of the soil and make a finite element analysis with the numerical model of slope of real field condition and vary slope angles. You will be able to find by yourself the best angle for your case. Use GEO5 software. Its free.

You have to perform slope stability analysis and find out the maximum slope angle at which the slope is more stable..In general, mild slope angle is more stable than steep slope angle because gravitational forces are high in steep slope as compared with mild slope..I suggest you to read any soil mechanics and foundation engineering book mainly look at the chapter on slope stability analysis..read the book titled 'Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering' by Gopal Ranjan and A.S.R.Rao..
