With possible consequences such as droughts, extreme-weather and damaging the crop-yields, why do we focus on such a solution to mitigate “Global Warming”?
Because scientists like to see themselves to provide the solution of the world's problems. It sounds amazing "We saved the world by inventing a machine/technique, the society could continue with business as usual and we are the heroes."
Also some governments and institutions/people with a technocratic ideology intend to come up with technical solutions rather than tackling the real malfunctioning of our societies: The inability to include social and environmental aspects sufficiently into decision making, both on an economic as well as on the political level.
Personally, I really, really disagree with "geo-engineering" as it comprises techniques with a meager probablity of success but a great risk for the planet (e.g. although we have some knowledge about the global climate system, we are missing many key points for full understanding). Moretheover, the consideration of these pseudo-solutions wastes valuable time and resources that are needed to change human behaviour.
