I'm looking to start some work using MXene materials, and would like to begin with larger pieces as opposed to powder. Would appreciate any leads on sourcing this. Thanks!
Lucas Andrew, if you are interested in solid pieces of MAX phase, there are generally two ways you can source:
1) Make it yourself. If you have access to a hot isostatic press, hot press, or spark plasma sintering device, you can make nearly 100% dense MAX phases. If you only have access to a tube furnace (or other pressureless sintering device), you can produce blocks of MAX phase. These won't be 100% dense, and will be easier to machine. It depends on what your usage is.
2) Purchase it. The only company that I know that produces fully dense MAX is Carbon Ukraine. You can reach out to Veronika Zahorodna or Alexei G. Gogotsi to see if they will sell you some.
Generally, working with these fully dense pieces leads to differences in MXene synthesis. The standard approaches that you see in literature will not necessarily apply with the exact conditions for the wet approaches.
