i want to know about environmental conditions of plant growth of Vitex agnus castus (chaste tree) ,cionura erecta, caltropis proceral through seed.... i study on these native plants for urban green space.
Being a Mediterranean plant, Vitex agnus-castus prefers sunny or semi-shaded areas, and can withstand any type of well drained soil. It does not need much water, usually rains are sufficient, in case of an excessive dry season you could moderately water it (just the first 2 years of growing).
This shrub often suffers winter dieback, dying to the ground, however the roots survive and led to new growth the following year.
Best grown in loose, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. This shrub often suffers winter dieback or dies to the ground. It is not considered reliably winter hardy . Even though plants may die to the ground, the roots often survive the winter and push up as much a 4-7' of new growth the following year. Because flowering appears on new growth, winter dieback or pruning back to the ground will not affect flowering.
1. Soak the chaste tree seeds in a bowl of water for 24 hours to determine which are viable. Start the seeds that sink to the bottom and discard those that float to the surface.
2. Prepare a container for each chaste tree you wish to grow. Fill the pots with a mixture of 4 parts compost and 1part perlite. Saturate the mixture with water and let the excess drain off for 10 to 15 minutes before sowing.
3. Sow three chaste tree seeds in each pot. Press the seeds onto the surface of the moistened compost mixture. Cover them with a 1cm layer of compost. Mist the compost liberally to settle it.
4. Place the potted chaste tree seeds outdoors in a warm, sheltered area with full sun exposure. Provide light shade at midday to keep the compost from drying out too quickly.
5. Monitor the moisture level in the compost mixture every day. Add water until the mixture feels moderately moist in the top inch.
6. Keep the pots at temperatures ranging 20 – 25 °C.
7. Watch for germination in approximately two weeks. Thin the chaste tree seedlings to one per pot. After seedling emergence, Compensate water losses in pots by Hoagland solution or transplant the seedlings in larger pots filled with a mixture of sandy-soil and coco-peat.
