Hi Dr Mohamed Salaheldin . It should be applicable soon by using the solar collectors . Especially using concentrated parabolic solar collectors like Solar Dish where the temperature reached 2000C in the focus . Trough where the temperature can reach 400C. I used the Solar Dish in sterilizing the polluted water in my research .

I think direct use of the solar energy for controlled heating processes may be little bit questionable. It is known that the most sophisticated control in the processes is accomplished by the electrical energy as its flow is fully and precisely controllable. So one solution is to convert the solar energy into electrical energy and then use the electrical energy in the process control.

One solution to the problem is crude controlled heating as a first step to a lower temperature by solar heating followed by final very precisely and controlled heating by the electrical energy.

In sophisticated industrial chemical processes, I think that we need to get SHIP applied. It might be a great use of renewable energy and could be used efficiently in heat exchanging and steam generation. I am looking forward to having this applied based on reliable technologies.

Dear Mohamed Salaheldin, In this context, solar thermal energy offers a clean and economically profitable alternative to supply the heat needs of the industry compared to traditional fuels, favoring the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector. There are different solar devices that can satisfy the heat demand according to the temperature range in which they operate. The implementation of this technology makes it possible to improve the quality of life of the population by reducing the incidence of respiratory diseases, mainly in urban centers, since it allows reducing the emission of atmospheric pollutants from fixed sources based on fossil fuels. In addition, it contributes to the fight against climate change at a global level, by avoiding the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The deployment of solar thermal technology for industrial applications is relatively low relative to the residential sector, however, in recent years there has been a significant increase in new solar plants to generate process heat around the world.

There are three main differences between thermal systems for residential applications and those for industrial uses, therefore, they require different technologies that adapt to the needs, which in part explains the reason why penetration in the industrial sector has been very limited: Industrial processes require a higher volume of heat, industrial processes are generally continuous, so the demand for heat is constant over time, and industrial processes require higher operating temperatures.

Approximately 50% of the energy consumption of the industrial sector is used to provide thermal energy below 400ºC (IRENA, 2015a). This means great potential for the deployment of solar thermal devices, since the technology available for this temperature range has a sufficiently advanced degree of development on a commercial scale to guarantee competitive costs today. Most industrial processes require the heating of a fluid stream (water, steam, thermal oils) and the heating of tanks or reactors. Conventional heating systems to supply the necessary heat are based on steam or hot water from a boiler; As has been observed for this purpose, fossil fuels are mainly used, such as petroleum derivatives, natural gas and coal. In this context, the main drivers for the implementation of solar thermal technologies in industrial processes are:

• Reduced risks associated with increasingly volatile and rising prices of goods fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas;
• Increased competitiveness of the industry through the reduction of fuel costs;
• Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions; and
• Coverage of specific energy needs in production processes.

Building integrated CSP for SHIP could be considered.

I think apply Solar Heating in Industrial Processes, especially heterocatalysis is a ideal strategy for reduce CO2 emissions. And it may formed a new research hotpot for clean energy.
