in a no till corn-soybean rotation system including cover crop, soil total and Mehlich3P have decreased from one year to another year but soil total organic p has increased. what are the possible reasons for that?
The biggest loss of P is from the corn harvest.\
The transition to no till is increasing the soil organic matter particularly at the surface.
The ceasing of tillage is increasing earthworms.
The biological activity of the soil is increasing in relation to increased soil organic matter and biological activity.
If the P test is above 20 P1 or more do not worry.
For top corn yields over 180 K test would be recommendable.
If you can get soil nitrate over 25 ppm your system will not need any additional input for an optimal yield under optimal environment.
