However, δ13C(SOM) varies from –14.2‰ to –22.6‰ with an overall variability of 8.5‰. What are possible interpretations?
Those values would indicate that the organic matter origin does not change along the sediment profile. Are those positive values ?
As above, I think more information is needed. What's the delta value around, variability of 7-8 permil is increase or decrease?

Some more details would be good (e.g. what environment, do the isotopes increase or decrease down the profile etc.). If you post a figure with the down core d1C values that might help the community interperate your results. A few suggested reasons are:
If you see a trend of isotopic enrichment or depletion with depth in could indicate a changing organic matter source over time (e.g. shift from C4 to C3 vegetation type or vice versa) or

If you see a tendency to depletion with a depth, this could indicate a changing source of organic matter over time, moving from plant type C4 to C3
Yes, there is clear cut down depth variation from C4 to C3 and it is due to changing source of orgainic matter over time. But, why there is no depth wise variation in geochemical data or in geochemical proxies.
