Does anyone know a software to visualize “citing structure”, i.e. that shows how papers in field are linked with one another through references?
I would expect that for a healthy field a tree-like structure would emerge with a clear stem, several strong branches, and twigs shooting off of these branches. If a field is all over the place, then the structure would be more like a shrub, without a stem and branches, but with a proliferation of twigs sprouting right out of the ground.
Any experience or ideas?
