Yes, I think that writing comments and conducting discussions on social media portals can develop critical thinking among students. However, in order for new media to help shape appropriate attitudes and develop critical thinking correctly, it is important to meet several important requirements. First of all, not all social media portals are suitable to be used as teaching tools. Secondly, participation in discussions and writing comments by students on social media portals must be devoid of profanity, senseless criticism and should be conducted in high standards of personal culture. Therefore, it is necessary to fully control this educational process by the teacher. Thirdly, the discussions should concern specific, relevant, current problems and issues related to the curriculum at a particular stage of the teaching process, i.e. in accordance with the guidelines of the central institution, Ministry of Education, as regards the curriculum framework for teaching. In addition, discussions with the use of social media portals should be formalized, for example, by organizing a school discussion club, in which students conduct discussions on specific topics and depending on, for example, the number of likes and comments of subsequent participants joining the discussion are appropriately assessed for participation in discussion.
