My research is about investigating lateral deformations in shear walls with openings , I need to know which model is more appropriate for that purpose ..Smeared crack concrete model or Concrete damaged plasticity model ?
as you mebtioned there are Concrete Smeared Crack (CSC) model and Concrete Damage Plasticity (CDP) model. the CSC can be used but undel monotonic loading only and tension stifenning paremeter needs to be calibrated accoring to your model data with the aid of available experimental results. While CDP model can be used when you apply cyclic or monotonic loading . CDP model has many parameters that needs to be calibrated too. CDP has capability to trace the crack pattern progress through the entire loading history but CSC hasn't. if you need more help please drop me an email then we can discuss more.

If you are using ABAQUS FE software for example, you may found the drawback of smeared cracked model which is difficulty of convergence when using small elements
Concrete Damaged Plasticity (CDP) model was developed to provide a general capability for the analysis of concrete structures under cyclic and/or dynamic loading. This model also incorporated a set of scalar damage parameters to represent the degradation of stiffness with plastic deformations (cracking and crushing of concrete). While the Concrete Smeared Cracking (CSC) model is mainly applicable to static monotonic loading.
Therefore, in my experience, I prefer to use (CDP) because your research is about investigating lateral deformations in shear walls. Where you need to show the damaged in shear wall that can not show it using (CSC)
