I think starting with Veins is a great idea. If you use Version 2.2 then you only need to get familiar with OMNeT++, SUMO, MiXiM and Veins itself. It's best to start with the Veins tutorial: http://veins.car2x.org/tutorial/

I did this tutorial last week with VEINS 2.2 and I have install NETA(Network Attack framework) in OMNET++ wich implements Three attacks (DELAY,DROP,BLACKHOLE) but in MANET, i must now think to how modify and adapt their code for VANET. i wish i can find some help in this topic.

Since NETA provides for sure OMNeT++ modules, it should not be too difficult to integrate them in the Veins 2.2 simulation framework. If you are interested in privacy related network attacks, you might be interested in this upcoming publication:

I also want to be able to simulate attacks on VANET. I have read research papers that claimed to have carried out the attacks but there were not detailed on how they simulated the attacks.

To implement attacks in Man in the Middle, you must use Pcap libraries and Wireshark tools for package analysis.

These attacks are checked based on formal methods.

Formal methods can be Avispa and Ban logic
