I am trying to simulate the temperature field in arc welding process. For this i m using the Goldak heat source, which is inbuild in LS_DYNA. I am totally new to this software and getting lot of hurdle while doing this simulation.
Can anyone send me step by step guide for creating the weld path for above mentioned heat source.

I don't know about the capability of LS-DYNA software of solving welding problem as written by you. But I will suggest you can perform such simulations in ANSYS Mechanical APDL/Workbench software using death and birth codes. In ANSYS death and birth of elements were done by 'Ekill' and 'EAlive' commands. In ANSYS, initially, you select transient thermal analysis, apply Dirichlet and Neumann bc's and simultaneously kill the elements and make them alive (this action actually indicates the addition of filler material) by writing subroutines and commands stated above. Many tutorials are also available, you can refer them. I hope this will help you.

thanks for your reply. Actually i do not have access to ANSYS and can only use LS-DYNA. using LS-DYNA one can also simulate the temperature field in arc welding. The onyl problem is that i am not able to define the path for the welding torch. In LS-DYNA documentation they have written the way to to do it, but in a very comapct manner and as i am very new to LS-DYNA, i was looking if someone can provide me step by step guide for this.

ANSYS and LS-DYNA now combination in One software
if you have ANSYS 14 , this including LS-DYNA
but LS-DYNA use for dynamic analysis and more difficult from ANSYS /APDL
and no need to write subroutines and commands
