I am also working on the use of simulation for new ICU orientees. The only thing is finding a place that will allow you to use the more sophisticated manikins. So we are going to use a live person to script a fall and consequential problems. It is like that manikins in ACLS trying to think of them as a real patient is sometimes tasking for the staff.

The sim technology is the simulator (a tool for teaching) - the mannequin (high fidelity/low fidelity, standardized patient, ect). Simulation based teaching strategies would include developing the scenarios/integrating QSEN to promote learning and safety, and especially the debrief, "a reflective teaching strategy"(Jefferies, 2012, p. 107). 

Yes I know it takes the building of a good scenarios, but when you are a small hospital and have a small college that you are an affiliate with the use of a very high tech simulation is hard. So I think that hands on with a person would or could glean as much information, with one person being the recorder as in an ACLS simulation.

Based on the way in which the question is written "simulation-based strategies" seems to be referring to the outcome/goal of the teaching. The "technology (manikin patient simulators, task trainers, virtual reality)" are the tools that are used. For example, during IV training using an IV arm the individual may learn the subtle kinesthetics related to IV placement while with ACLS training using simulation prompts decision-making under stress. 

Strategy (?) for IV insertion would be: to increase nurses' kinesthetic skills and comfort related to IV placement and dressing (since using a simulation mannequin would require using tape to secure, etc) using an simulation arm (i.e. the technology) rather than using a 'computer-based' simulation (technology) for teaching IV placement. 

(M: If the literature does not distinguish between the two terms or define them it is unfortunate and [as you can see] confusing. ;)

Could you please tell me the difference and give me example for each (strategies and technology)

All the kinds of literature talk about the IV insertion technology such as virtual reality, arm task trainer, standardized patient, high fidelity computed assist.
