Hello everyone, how to make the self-prepared SBF solution become more effective in producing bone-like apatite on the thin films materials? some of my friends even sometimes myself facing this problem, where the SBF solution unable to precipitate bone-like apatite on the surface of the thin films even though based on the literature, our specimen supposed able to produce bone-like apatite in short soaking duration (less than 7 days)

Indeed, there are many versions of SBF, as well as there are concentrated versions of SBF, such as 1.5 times SBF, 2 times SBF, 3 times SBF, 5 times SBF and even 10 times SBF. Their preparation techniques are widely described in literature. Certainly, the higher concentration, the easier the precipitation. In addition, precipitation/non-precipitation strongly depends on the both structure and composition of the surface (in your case, thin films). Perhaps, something was adsorbed on your thin films, which inhibited the precipitation or, on the contrary, something promoting was adsorbed on the films from the references, in which the precipitation was successful. Just keep trying and start with either concentration increasing of your SBF or pH increasing of your SBF by adding a small amount of NaOH or KOH.
For initial studies, dry dipping your solution in 0.5mol calcium chloride solution for 12 hrs and then wash it and subsequently immerse in sbf. This may introduce nidi for apatite growth inthe thin film surface

Yes sir...absolutely. If you are attempting to produce a material with biomimetic mineral deposition then this will help. If you are evaluating the in vivo mineralizing potential this may be if little use. It depends upon application..
