I am not a biologist or a chemist, but years ago when I burned "horsetail grass" I was surprised to see that the ash was primarily silica. That might be an interesting plant to try. Mark
Anoop: I find this to be quite interesting. Horsetail grass is known to be quite dangerous to horses, causing bleeding as they go through it and this may relate to the content of silica. Please give me your ideas as to how plants, and especially diatoms, are able to concentrate silica when this chemical has such a low solubility in water.
