Hello All,

I have a questionnaire with 8 binary questions and 1 Likert-scale and 3 rating question. When I calculate the standardized Cronbach’s alpha for all 12 items together, the alpha is 0.68. One of the binary questions shows a very low correlation (0.03). If I remove this question, the standardized Cronbach’s alpha improves to 0.70.

As a note: when I calculate Cronbach’s alpha using only the 8 binary questions, this same item still shows a very low correlation (0.1) with the total. Removing it increases the raw alpha from 0.57 to 0.66.

is it better to remove this low-correlating binary question to calculate the total score? or keep it?

Thank you in advance,

Bahar
