I'm currently facing a decision between patenting 'xyz' invention and publishing my findings in a research paper. Both options have their apparent advantages and disadvantages, and making the right choice seems crucial for my career and the dissemination of my work.

if your discovery is novel and inventive technical solution, you have choice to publish it or to try to obtain a patent for it. Once you publish it - it becomes publicly available and you have no rights to prevent others from using your invention without your permission. Once you protect it with a patent, the mentioned patent rights occur in the countries where it is granted and validated, you could also provide licenses having financial benefits. However, patenting is quite long and costly process.
And, of course, you still can publish it after filing a patent application

I would barely suggest to file a patent on your invention, which brings a monopoly of exclusive license for 20 years. Also, pre-requisites of filing a patent have such stages to drive through. If any suggestions, please let me know.
