The supposed rebuttal of Silberstein's paper, by Einstein and Rosen, was, according to this account, dependent upon the existence of lambda. But wasn't lambda later discarded?

Is it because if the Lorentz relations were used to describe how light moves in the AE train-embankment experiment, then we would have no "Relativity of Simultaneity" -- just like in the Michelson Morley and the Einstein Light-Clock cases . .

The error here is that "Lorentz invariance is a general condition of the nature of space and time in general."
Lorentz invariance pertains to light rays -only-, and all it means is that the light has to arrive simultaneously, to (equally) distant or together places, in all frames. ie. there is no "dislocated simultaneity." The offsets and corrections to the light rays, that furnish this, are, if applied to light rays only, this "Lorentz invariance".

Apropos : The "tilting mirror" proof above, that the Relativity of Simultaneity is untenable, is one of the simplest.
It is stronger than an experimental proof, to my mind, because it demonstrates something that cannot possibly be. An experimental proof, such as the Michelson Morley experiment, -- might be subject to an amendment, or alteration, an improved result might conceivably come along and replace the older one.

The above is not subject to amendment. The Relativity of Simultaneity is simply a logical impossibility.
And so we have an Absolute character to breadth and an Absolute chracter to time, as described by Newton in his General Scholium.
