Generally speaking, teachers and educators employ various strategies to improve learners' motivation and attitudes towards language learning. Providing students with verbal feedback and praise is in fact one of the strategies prevalently used to encourage students and has a great bearing on the process of learning. According to Ur (1996: 242) , feedback is the information that " is given to the learner about his or her performance of the learning task, usually with the objective of improving their performance" . As such, you are absolutely right to consider teacher's feedback as a motivator because it not only provides the students with the knowledge of how well they have performed, but also boosts motivation and creates a favorably supportive classroom atmosphere.
I would like to share some view points with you about Feedback in L2 acquisition.
I think we, as instructors and educators, should always give positive feedback to our learners in order to create a sense of happiness and promote confidence in learning. When giving positive and constructive feedback we foster progress and encourage learners´ involvement, and this causes motivation and makes them feel good about their efforts.
Language used when giving feedback is essential and crucial. We should always try to be sensitive and polite. We can never give a demoralizing feedback. It is better to give feedback individually, and give suggestions, recommendations and guidance.
I couldn't agree any more. You are truly right. If positive feedback is rewarding, it may increases learners’ confidence and interest, as well as create a pleasant learning environment.
Stress free environment is one of the most important elements that encourage the acquisition of foreign language and a positive feedback is one of its criterion. Learners usually need a praise even for a little language products because this will support their confidence and encourage them to do it again and again.
