Hi,

I'm working on the identification and isolation of pathogenic skin bacteria (such as S. aureus and other Streptococci). I have growth of different bacterial colonies on non-selective, and I'd like to inoculate the colonies into selective/differential media to identify the identity of the bacteria.

I know Mannitol Salt Agar is selective for Staphylococci and identifies S. aureus; EMB Agar is for coliform bacteria; and blood agar differentiates based on growth and hemolysis.

Should I inoculate the bacterial colonies into both MSA and blood agar separately, or would there be a more appropriate growth media to use specifically for skin pathogens? Would also like to maximize resources.

Thank you!
