I am working on grafting polymer synthesis, want to attach a long (C>24) fatty acid to the methoxy part of Poly(Methyl Vinyl-alt-Maleic Anhydride) backbone without affecting Maleic anhydride part, because It will be used further for benzyl alcohol addition.

Can I just use any demethylating used to convert the methoxy group into alcohol?
