Cosmetic sclerotherapy is done for spider veins, reticular veins, varicose veins etc. Sclerosing agents used are - polidocanol, glycerin, hypertonic saline, sodium tetradecyl sulfate etc. Among the sclerosing agents which could be the ideal one for cosmetic sclerotherapy? Is it polidocanol? What concentration should we use?
I am using Lauromacrogol 400. Concentration depends on vein size.
Spider veins - 0,5%, reticular - 1.0%, varicose veins - up to 3.0%
I use polidocanol (Aethoxysklerol) liquit 0,5% for spider, liquit 1% for reticular and foam 1-3% for truncal varicose veins.
Ideal sclerosing agent is not discovered yet. Several studies comparing different agents for sclerotherapy. The majority showed more complications with glycerin and hypertonic saline / glucose comparing to detergents (polydocanol, STS). The difference between last 2 is not significant. STS more used in USA, Poly - in Europe. Regarding the concentration, I'm generally agree with previous answers. The concentration can vary in some range, because the volume and time of contact with endothelium is also important.
