for an introduction into this area please have a look at the attachment.
In the case you do not know the shape of the crystallites (such as in your case of polymers) you should use K=1.

And, of course, many polymers are amorphous and not crystalline. The Scherrer equation is then useless in this regard...

The value of the Scherrer constant, k or the proportionality constant depends on the shape of the crystallites and the size distribution. k generally takes the value 0.89-0.9 for spherical crystals with cubic symmetry.
