Has anyone had experience programming in SCALA?

This language, combines concepts from advanced functional languages such as Eiffel, and Object oriented languages including Java, to produce a more scalable program design. Their "Actor" model seems likely to scale well, and the more mature case command, works better in concurrent operations. All this build upon the standard JVM so that it is easily portable and designed to interoperate with Java so that you can retain the java base of already designed programs.

Is it too good to be true? Why haven't I heard of it earlier?
