Can anyone help me find a material regarding RSSI, RSS or RSSI algorithm? I have searched for information regarding RSSI and happily found authors contradict among themselves, leaving me in DARK.

For the relation between RSS and distance you can start by using the Friis equation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friis_transmission_equation. For sure you need to know the transmiter power and the gains on both antennas.
By measuring the RSS at the mobile and using the equation you can get the distance. Anyway, for real scenarios this simplistic model won't be enough and you must use more elaborated one. Thats why I would recommend that you search for RSS-based geolocation techniques.
Stay away from RSS profiling for that option has only good results on indoor enviroments.
