Algeria faces many threats to its national security, but the following threats are the most important: the expansion of drug consumption and trafficking, terrorism and extremism, and climate change.
- The first thing that must be clarified is the difference between "risk" and "threat".
- The term "risk" is usually referred to a dangerous situation that occurs as a result from the interaction among actors or is of natural origin (e.x. the economic/environmental risk is very high for the X state) that mostly affects internal security. On the other hand, the term "threat" usually refers to a certain actor whose actions are usually directed towards another one (e.x. Turkey poses a threat to Greece due to its aggressive foreign policy) and affects external security.
- That said, the three major risks for Greece's national security - in my opinion - are the following:
1. Demographics (populations reduction).
2. Energy security (high energy dependance from other states).
4. Economic security (reduction of the agricultural and industrial sector).
