Why some journals take more review time than given on their websites? If it is one month extra, it is OK but taking more than three months is a bit questionable. Is it due to reviewers or the editors?

Some journals need a period between 45 and 60 days before send an article to review (these journals have high rate of manuscript submission, and of course they need to be sure that the manuscript is appropriate for their aims and scope ...). After that, the editor responsible will contact at least two reviewers. In some cases, the reviewers don't accept the invitation for unknown reasons. Once the reviewer accept the invitation, you have to be sure that he has multiples obligations and he need time to do his job.
Be positive and don't afraid from decent persons
