I need your helpful suggestions to solve one of the issues related to evaluating the purity of an azobenzene type compound using a C18 reversed-phase column. The compound dissolves only in Methylene chloride or Acetone. However, whenever I try to use Methylene chloride as one of the mobile phase components, the baseline fluctuates and creates air bubbles in the system regardless of the proportion or the method that I use.
Has anyone of you come up with such an issue when using Methylene chloride in HPLCs?
Dear Arosha Dassanayake, I'm no expert in this, but my guess is that it might have something to do with the low boiling point of methylene chloride (40 °C). Perhaps you should try if your compound is soluble in e.g. chloroform (boiling point 61 °C) or a related higher boiling solvent. Chances are that no bubbles will form when using these solvents.

Thank you very much for your helping suggestions, really appreciate. I was able to figure out the reason for the issue I was experiencing; it was a solvent miscibility issue in the mobile phase.
