Definitely. I know of at least one company in Portugal already doing this (MagnumCap) for a research project, and have been told car manufacturers are hoarding used batteries to research their reusability for stationary applications.

This stems from the fact that EV batteries have to meet very demanding performance requirements when comparing to stationary batteries, especially in terms of battery power. As such, when their state of health drops beyond a level where the batteries can deliver the necessary power, there are usually a couple of years left in the batteries if operated at the milder conditions that stationary storage involves.

thanks a lot for sharing your comment. We evaluated a techno economic analysis of the reusing EV battery for stationary application. Our results declared that the low electricity price is the main barrier for using repurposed EV battery for peak shaving; while EV Li-ion battery packs price fall sharply in recently and it will be predicts reach to US$ 66/kWh per for pack !! Reusing retired electric vehicle batteries (REVBs) in renewable energy systems is a relatively new concept. There is an interesting paper discussing this hot topic, ( https://doi.org/10.1016/j.enconman.2018.11.079). In this article, the presented PV-hydrogen-REVB hybrid energy system is a promising way to exploit REVBs’ residual capacities.
