Definitely there is an upper cap to the height of retaining walls. One of the reasons being, that beyond a certain height the retaining wall may be unsafe or uneconomical.

Here we practice BIS IS 14458-2 for the design of retaining walls and above attachment will give you clear idea about the maximum height of retaining walls (in hilly areas) as per the said code.

yes there should be a limit on the height of the wall. that is all depends on the type of wall . What material the wall is made of and of course site conditions
