Hi. I'm new to the topic of artificial neural networks (ANN). I would like to know about the main references (articles, books, etc.) for an introduction to the ANN study.
In particular, I wish to apply the ANNs as substitutes for the groundwater flow model. In addition, I want to know the capabilities that MATLAB provides when working with ANN.

In order to quickly start doing interesting projects I would suggest you use TensorFlow (python though). It is quite straight-forward and their tutorial on digit recognition is just great!

Artificial Neural Networks by Yegnanarayan (PHI) is good book for understanding basics of ANN.
You can also try an online open course.
For example, I recommend you this one in special, teached by prof. Geoffrey Hinton from the University of Toronto.
