No doubt varied methods could be used - however, I would suggest to at least consider social interactionism theory (as one way to help understand why people act the way they do). It is also a way to help understand how people frame meaning and perception. That Ethiopian Immigrants (and others) act differently in the USA than in their home land - the why question is an interesting one. All the best in your research endevours.
