Please go through the attached articles to get an idea about identifying research gaps and bridging the identified research gaps.

If it is a gap with no previous knowledge, then you don't need source material. Many early researchers had no citations

Identifying and then filling a research gap is standard research practice because it it's seen as advancing knowledge about something. But I think it's also worth thinking about why a gap exists and whether it's worth filling.

You have raised a very important point. I do research in humanities and once I submitted a paper to a journal and got the feed back that "the paper is an excellent piece of work, but your references are weak." Journals keep requiring that submitted manuscripts are built on some previous scholarly work, don't they?! They would even look at how influential that previous work is. What do you think?

Dag Bennett , thanks. I totally agree. There are also gaps which are really hard to fill, especially in sciences as they are a head of the current state of human knowledge.

Unless you are filling a gap, there is no point in publishing: after all, why write what has already been said? However, a gap might be as simple as adding to the perspective that is already available, broadening the strength of current hypotheses, or providing an overview of the most recent approaches/findings and tying them together. In other words, you always want to be able to answer the question: what does my article do that is not already being done? Or, why would someone need (not want) to read my article?

My strong recommendation is to carefully browse the back issues of your chosen publication and read past articles. What sort of research gap are their published authors filling? What content have they focused on in their most recent issues? You are looking for either hot topics that you can contribute something new to, or gaps that other researchers are identifying (scan for the "limitations" discussion) that you could fill.

I also recommend having your article professionally edited - an experienced academic editor can help you express your unique contribution clearly so that a reviewer knows what it is.

فجوة تحليلية: وهي تطبيق فعلي لأدوات تحليلية بصورة مبتكرة عن الأدوات المطبقة في البحوث السابقة التي طبقت في نفس السياق

فجوة معرفية: وهي عبارة عن إضافة لمعرف مبتكرة لم يسبق التطرق إليها سابقا

فجوة زمانية: وهي البحث في مجال ذو أهمية تم البحث فيه سابقا زمن طويل، وتجعل إعادة بحثه أمر ضروري.

فجوة مكانية: وهي البحث في مجال ذو أهمية تم البحث فيه سابقا، ولكن في بيئة مختلفة

فجوة تطبيقية: وهي تطبيق استراتيجية مبتكرةفي بحث تم الخوض في مجاله من قبل البحوث السابقة

فجوة مفهومية: وهي تطبيق مفاهيم مختلفة لم يتم تطبيقها من قبل البحوث السابقة التي خاضت في نفس المجال

فجوة منهجية: وهي تطبيق منهجية مختلفة لم يتم تطبيقها على مجتمع وعينة البحث من قبل البحوث السابقة التي خاضت في نفس المجال

فجوة نظرية: وهي إضافة إطار نظري لم يتم التطرق إليه من قبل البحوث السابقة التي بحثت في نفس السياق، على أن يكون له تأثير في نتائج البحث

خطوات صياغة الفجوة البحثية

يمكن صياغة الفجوة البحثية من خلال التالي

اتخاذ القرار البحثي في مشكلة البحث: يكون الباحث على علم ودراية كاملة في مشكلة البحث، فجمع المعلومات حول المشكلة البحثية سوف يمكنه من اتخاذ قراره البحثي بشأن مشكلة البحث

العمل على التدرج في تحليل الفجوة البحثية: يقوم الباحث بتوضيح المشكلة البحثية، ثم العمل على التدرج في تحليل الفجوة البحثية من خلال العام ومن ثم الانتقال إلى محيط البحث

تحديد المحتوى للفجوة البحثية: حيث يقوم الباحث بالتركيز على موضوع الفجوة البحثية وأن يكون بشكل واضح ودقيق، والابتعاد عن المحاور الفرعية.

توضيح نطاق الفجوة البحثية: وفي هذا المجال على الباحث القيام بصياغة الفجوة البحثية بشكل علمي وفق معايير البحث العلمي

تفسيرية الفجوة: حيث تصاغ الفجوة البحثية بشكل تفسيري ترشد على مشكلة البحث وأهميتها، وعلى أدبيات البحث متنه، وتجعل الشغف في النتائج المتوقعة

Muthana Makki Mohammedali Hemingway once said something along the line that all content is repetitive and only form is renewable. Accordingly, from the ancient times to the present day, topics have been recycled over and over again. Even when a topic seems to be fully researched, there is always a possibility to break new grounds, treating that same topic in a novel or unprecedented way. I don’t imply it’s easy, but it’s very much possible for the creative mind has no limits.

I'm talking from a researcher's perspective who believes that unless a research brings about a change in the readers' perspectives there is no point in writing it as Jennifer Harrison mentioned. The magnitude of the research gap should be measured first, I suppose.
