Many of us are publishing and have long been in academia. This discussion is based on research ethics in academia and publishing across various levels. Are we really complying with research ethics? Most of the researchers maintain ethics. Some do not just for personal gains and in most of the cases they are not penalized for their unethical practice
Oh yes, academic honesty is the key to success and those not maintaining ethics are doing so for short term gains only.
I think that researchers do not behave more or less ethical than other people. We are all humans.

Thank you Wolfgang R. Dick for these interesting yet surprising links. Academic ethics are not comprehensible by everyone.
Of course, cheaters are to be pitied.
However, when some have decided that one researcher is better than another only on the basis on Hirsch's index, there is an implicit pressure on all researchers to "publish more or perish." Those who set up this system (probably for a purely commercial reason) are also to be pitied in terms of ethics.
