I have quarry about electron confinement , that when size of the bulk materials is reduced to nanoscale range, electrons get confinement to energy levels and hence localized. Could this be the meaning of confinement that electrons ll not move from valance band to conduction band.? Or something else?

Nanotechnology began to be dealt with after they paid attention to the size effect. Nano-sized particles have unexpected properties compared to large particles. For example, metal nanoparticles have plasmons on their surface and therefore they absorb in the visible part of the spectrum. You can dye wool with gold nanoparticles. The wool will be golden. You will be wearing a gold jumper.
If the semiconductor particle size reaches the nanoscale, the number of overlapping orbitals or energy levels decreases and the band thickness becomes thinner. This will increase the band gap between the valence band and the conduction band.
