Hi, i have a aqueous slurry which is 30%+ Aluminum oxide 1 micron particles. This slurry is contains with 2% PEG polymer, which is pre-mixed by rolling with water.
after adding the alumina and sheermixing for 30 minutes, I get alot of air bubbles. It takes several days of rolling to remove the bubbles. I have been using a vacuum desiccator to remove the bubbles and foam but its a tedious process. Is there any other effective method? I don't want to heat it too much because the % solids will increase.

Sonication of the slurry followed by submitting it to reduced pressure, yet not excessive vacuum, may help to disengage entrapped air bubbles.
Ive tired that Carlos but its not efficient, the slurry is very viscous. Vacuum works but its very tedious.
The use of silicone based liquid anti-foaming agent is useful to eliminate quickly foam generated by air in the blending process of polymer – water slurry

In addtion to silicone based anti-foaming agents, other defoamer may work for you also, such as, oil based defoamers or molecule based defoamers.
