I have seen paper stating that it can remove KOH from the biochar or activated carbon with repeated washing of HCL and distilled water.
However, I do not understand how does washing of HCL and distilled water remove KOH from the biochar or activated carbon.
Do we have to filter the material after we put it in HCL and distilled water ?
A process whereby the activated carbon is washed by acid to remove the water-soluble ash. This process will also lower the total ash content of the carbon . Acid washed activated carbon is desirable for treating drinking water and food grade applications.
Use of HCl washing for neutralisation (removing KOH).
It is simply the formation and release of KCl. Other metals may also be released. The char will be acidic.
