RMU, Flourish Logistics target massive female inclusion in maritime industry

The Regional Maritime University (RMU) and Flourish Logistics Institute, have agreed on a partnership to provide integrated customs management system training, import, export and transit procedures in Ghana for students and the general public.

The partnership would also target massive inclusion of females into the training in a bid to encourage gender balance within the maritime industry.

Consequently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday between the two institutions to pave the way for the training to begin in July.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Flourish Logistics, Yacoba M. Asare stressed that they will be targeting fresh Senior High School graduates for the training in order to get young ones into the industry.

“We have started introducing the students especially females to the maritime domain and will ensure their smooth transition into industry after completion. We also trained about 12 people recently, with 10 being females while only two were males,” she stated.

The partnership with RMU she said, was a positive one as it would help in their quest to get females engaged in the maritime industry.

“The partnership would be of a great impact to us all as RMU is a world recognised institution and would give us great leverage,” she stressed.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) Dr. Jethro W. Brooks explained that the RMU for the past two years has been reaching out to institutions for mutually beneficial partnerships.

“The partnership is another way to strengthen our desire to ensure that we reach every aspect of the maritime industry that would require our services,” he stated.
