Agrobacterium rhizogenes is known for transfer genes encoding phenotypic alterations that serve as morphological markers for the presence of foreign DNA. This changes give ornamentally valuable characteristics. The problem here is that after Petunia in vitro root transformation by wild type A. rhizogenes, the calli formed is unable to regenerate shoots and leaves. It only gives rise to roots again.
