Had posted the question in Zotero forums. Got help. A member of the community actually wrote a code to suit my (college) needs! A very supportive group indeed.

I strongly recommend zotero for reference managements for academic / any writings.

You also think about other citation management systems like Mendeley and Qiqqa in addition to Zotero if you have a choice.
