Im studying biomedical science in my final year, and for one of my assessments we have to submit a proposal for a research project, as the research won't be carried out there are no limitations, however I would like to keep the idea simple and the research/data strong. I am interested in neurodegenerative disease and single gene disorders, and really struggling to source an idea specific and interesting enough.
Make a mouse with iPS-cell-inducing genes (OKSM) in neural cells, doxicyclin-inducible, and also which has a mutation for neurodegenerative disease. Then try treating the mouse with doxicyclin and see what happens.
Hello Rachel Mccormack , I have also done the same requirement for my graduation. I suggest you read some literature reviews about neurodegenerative disorders. Currently, brain organoids are being used as a model to study the mechanism as well as finding biomarkers for various neurodegenerative disorders. You could add your own experiments but I think finding non-invasive biomarkers using extracellular vesicles or miRNA from patient-derived brain organoids seems interesting.
