Hi all,
I wonder about the distribution of the Albula goreensis species. It is part of a particularly complex genus that was revised by an article published in 2020 (see reference below and attached file) by Brandon Pickett, Elizabeth M Wallace, Perry G Ridge & John S K Kauwe.
In this paper, A. goreensis (part of the A. vulpes complex) appears to have a widespread distribution in the western Atlantic, including the Caribbean Sea and northern Brazil, and in the eastern Atlantic. But in the East Atlantic, only the Gulf of Guinea area is shown in figure 6 (and in supplementary figure 15).
Fishbase indicates that the species is distributed only in Eastern Atlantic but from Senegal south to Angola. Eschmeyer's Catalog gives: Distribution: Western Atlantic: including Caribbean Sea; eastern Atlantic: Senegal south to Angola, including São Tomé and Principe.
The latter distribution makes sense to me, especially as the A. goreensis type comes from Senegal, as its name suggests. But I wonder why Pickett et al. restrict the distribution on the coasts of Africa to the Gulf of Guinea.
Do you know if even more recent papers have discussed the distribution of this species (and more generally that of the genus Albula)? I haven't been able to find any.
Cheers,
Luis
