i need help about radiation pattern of monopole antenna plot in CST. In 3D pattern its doughnut shaped , but when choose phi=0 , i not get full circle. my antenna is placed in X-Y Plane. if i choose theta=0 then the complete circle i getting in polar form. should i have to choose theta =0 for radiation plots? what angle of theta or phi will be my H and E plane

Thanks for sharing tutorial. Actually in research papers there is always a circle in H plane of monopole antenna. this is actually confusing me that at what angle of phi they get the circle in H plane.

Can you please upload the picture of our monopole antenna. Because, I can get E-plane at 30deg also depending on antenna placement. E-plane is the plane which contain maximum electric field. This plane normally take phi=0 deg most of the case. Other phi= constant plane can also be found. Similar case can also be found for H-plane. Therefore, please upload your antenna fig/geometry
It is usual to have theta as the angle from the axis of the monopole or dipole. Then a cut at theta=90 degrees (or any theta) for phi=0 to 360 degrees is a circle. The polar diagram is correct and sensible. Look at the radial scale. The gain varies from 1.62 to 2.5 (is this absolute or dB?). This is a very small amount, the way it is plotted makes it look big. On the 3D plot you can see that the gain is higher towards you.
in this paper the author takes theta=0 for H plane. why he take theta =0 ???
I need more than that picture to work out what the angles mean. In cases like this I am not sure what E-plane and H-plane mean, as the black plots look like E-plane cuts and the red look like H-plane cuts,for an electric dipole, and the opposite way round for a magnetic dipole. To have them both in the same picture labelled H-plane doesn't make sense to me. I would need to know what he antenna looks like and where x, y and z point. Sometimes the captions are wrong, too, don't forget that possibility.
The nulls will be close to the axis of the dipole, and the circular plots will be around its equator.

Thanks for that - I am used to E-plane meaning the plane aligned with the electric field vector, and H-plane meaning the plane aligned with the magnetic field vector of the radiated field. For a vertical electric dipole these are the same as elevation and horizontal, but I think that some of the amateur community and probably the people writing the paper think E and H actually mean elevation and horizontal whereas they don't. watch out for confusion between these. Presumably in the caption the term H-field might not mean magnetic field (which it usually does in electromagnetics) but means horizontal plane, and E-field doesn't mean electric field (which it usually does in electromagnetics) but means vertical plane. I still can't make sense of the words and the pictures at the same time but given a picture of the antenna could probably tell you how the polar diagrams line up with the antenna.
