this is the heading in the syllabus under heading of comparative education. can any body suggest any book or any other material regarding this. and how can we categories these studies.
I have worked quite a lot in this field, particularly in the area of comparative studies of teacher education and, more recently anti-school bullying interventions. Cross national learning can be exceedingly helpful, but there is a rider. Rarely, is it wise to import a way of doing things in one country to another "lock, stock and barrel", i.e. the whole package. Prudent selection is, I think, often more helpful.
On the other hand, this latter practice also carries risks. If, for example, a very promising anti-bullying programme in Norway is adopted but over adapted elsewhere, its core hitting power can be lost or watered down. The key issues are surely balance and context. Feel free to consult several publications on my RG list that address such issues. Best wishes and good luck. Paul
Generally speaking, the phrase "comparative education" means comparing across countries or nationalities. If that is your meaning, there are two books that we tend to use most often in our cross-cultural studies class in Teaching and Educational Studies:
Kubow & Fossum (2nd edition is coming out in May) Comparative Education: Exploring Issues in International Context.
Phillips & Schweisfurth (2014) Comparative and International Education: An Introduction to Theory, Method, and Practice.
I like the Phillips & Schweisfurth book for its chapters on comparative methods and its discussion of different types of outcomes in comparative education research.
If what you mean by "comparative" is the research term, though, we have the standard headers used in social science - experimental, quasi-experimental, and ex-post facto comparisons.
In terms of 'what types of studies' there are in comparative education, one such are is 'comparative and international education'
Key authors in this area are
Michael Crossley and K Watson with a key text being 'Comparative and International Research in Education'
Micheal Schweinfurt
Michele Schweisfurth
Guthrie
Tabulawa
Key Journals would be 'Compare' and also 'Comparative Education"
Themes even within international comparative education are obviously vast. One example could b learner centred pedagogy and it's presumed notions of democratisation.
