29 September 2016 1 7K Report

Dear Researchers,

I have prepared some alloy samples (NiCuMnSn) by ball milling. The obtained powder was converted into 10mm pellets and then heat treated at 950 degree celcius (under very high vacuum ) for 36 hrs followed by ice-water quenching. The obtained phase is mixture of austenite and martensite phase. It could not convert into single phase (martensite phase).

Why it is so?

I have performed  DSC measurement (during heating) of these samples from 30 degree celcius to 550 degree celcius. I found 2 peaks near 350 degree and 380 degree. My questions are-

What does these two peaks indicate?

Is it martensitic transforamtion?

Should I do DSC from 5K to 400k temperature also?

Is it high temperature shape memory alloy?
