I have two molecules having the same solvent (say water) but having Diffusion coefficient D1 and D2 in water. So If I am having microfluidic mixer, do I need to consider the same diffusion coefficient which are in water or diffusion coefficient will change in this situation? because, we have two inlets having two different molecules dissolved in water and forming a cross gradient..meaning.. molecule A will diffuse into water+molecule B system and molecule B will diffuse in molecule A+water system. So that means molecule A and molecule B are no longer diffusing in only water but there is already a solute in it. Am I thinking it correctly? Thanks in advance!
Your thinking is right, but I will think both A and B are in much smaler amount in molecule # compare to the # of the solvent molecules. You may ignor the A or B in solvent when you treat B or A's diffusion . Do you think so?
Guobing Xiang yes you may be right. I can just ignore them as they are in less concentration. thanks for the help.
If A and B are non-interacting electrolytes the great excess of water (55.5 mole/L) should not affect their motion, may be considered independent. If any of them can be regarded as a solvent or exists in high concentration, then there may be other effects.
