Does anyone have a reference to experiments and/or theory relating the electronic structure of PTFE / Teflon / similar fluoropolymers to why these materials seem to strongly quench many NIR fluorophores including the tricarbocyanine family when these dye molecules are incorporated into the polymer? Are there other properties of the polymer that could cause this, for example aggregation of the dye?
