Hi there. I am studying why it might be that individuals who have experienced trauma, especially complex interpersonal trauma throughout childhood, have a hard time receiving or filtering information from their environment. For example, not fully listening to others, becoming overstimulated easily, etc.

I came across the phrase "stimulus barrier" with some older articles and I believe this might be the name for this concept, but I am not sure. I am not able to find an operational definition on any of the studies and most of them are 30+ years old.

Does anyone know if stimulus barrier is the correct term for this and I should keep looking, or can you point me in the direction of what would be more appropriate?

Thanks!
