Dear all!

In face of Climate Change most attention is given to individual species (range shift) and ecosystems (for instance upward shift in mountains). However, the most important legal instrument to manage biodiversity, which is designated protected area, has been neglected. In contrast to  species and ecosystems, a designated area cannot move. Species may drop out of the area that has been protected with the argument of their preservation, and ecosystems may loose biodiversity and functioning within These areas, while these ecosystem traits may improve outside or in other places where the same type of ecosystem exists or moves to. I would like to hear your opinion on this issue and collect suggestions to tackle this creeping problem. Of Course, there is a certain fear that if the value of a protected area is reduced, this site may be questioned or even lost, but conservation strategies are needed how to cope with such Trends and to delveop approaches to counteract in proactive manner. Please share your opiinon!
