Hi ,

With reference to my recent message regarding writing a proposal for my PhD researching Insomnia. I have just completed my M.A.

in creative writing. However, I would like to study for a PhD researching into the reasons why, myself, and millions of others who suffer in silence. Without any positive way of overcomming this illness. It is my understanding that there hasn't been enough research into this problem. This is why I would like to research this further..

However, my Lecture suggest that I don't have the knowledge to take on such a task. To convince her that maybe i could. I have to write a convincing proposal, any sugggestions or comments would be very welcome?

Thank you Alan

Below is a reply from my senior Lecturer at my University.

Dear Alan,

Yes, insomnia is a serious issue with massive personal and societal impacts all over the world. However, people with hugely impressive medical and scientific qualifications are already working hard on solutions. What would you be able to add from a creative writing perspective?

To start with, you would need to do a literature review, summarising the most up-to-date work in this area, and making the case for why your intervention is original and effective. If you can do that, then you would have the basis of a research proposal.

Best wishes,

Ursula
